This is a site on the Studies of Legal Change and Social Movements

This site is under development and will soon display information about research on Legal Change and Social Movements, done by Associate Professor Håkan Gustafsson and Senior Lecturer Stellan Vinthagen. Gustafsson works at Gothenburg University and Vinthagen at University West, Sweden. Our current research project is funded by the Swedish Research Foundation VR (Vetenskapsrådet) during 2009-2011. This site though, is a permanent site dealing with the theme of interaction processes between the law and social movements. Here our aim is to promote studies of “legal mobilization” and network globally with other scholars and activists interested in such related issues.

The site will contain information about;

  • the current research project
  • links to social movement studies and critical legal studies
  • our publications on the theme and suggested reading lists for students of legal mobilization, sociology of law and social movement studies
  • upcoming conferences of interest, and especially the conferences we plan to attend (and hope others with similar interests will join)
  • news about legal mobilization relevant events
  • discussions on problems and challenges connected to legal mobilization
  • reflections on theoretical and empirical issues in the field
  • presentations of us and others we cooperate with and who do studies of legal mobilization
